The Walled Garden
Up dated 27/02/2006
Angus (Madam Pauline’s brother and Ralston Ryder). I will shortly be adding some updated photo’s from a recent visit the Walled Garden, you will see that work continues and the results are clear to see. I will also be adding some photo’s on the tree I bought in memory of a member last year and will update it’s progress.

Hunterston House
A feature on Hunterston House itself, this will include some photo’s and history. It will also include history on some of the members of the family that have been the guardians of Hunterston for generations so that it exists for us to enjoy today. As Hunterston House is still a Private Home, we will be looking more at it’s history and not the inside which would be intrusive. It is still hoped to add this section, though work pressures have forced me to delay it.

Hunterston EstateIt is hoped that we will be able to bring you information on the Estate itself, this will include walks that currently exist, and the restoration of old walks. I will also try and get some pictures of the Deer as well as other animals on the estate.
Below is a section of an old map that shows the layout of Hunterston House on the Estate.

The Hunters have had their roots at Hunterston in North Ayrshire since the latter years of the 11th Century. It is one of the few Scottish Families to still reside at its original place of settlement in Scotland. Hunterston Castle is the traditional seat of the Hunter family of Hunterston.
The aim of the 30th Laird, Madam Pauline Hunter of Hunterston, is to provide a focal point for all Hunter Clan members worldwide, by ensuring that Hunterston Castle is preserved for present and future generations of Hunters. The Castle provides the perfect centre for all the Clansfolk. Restoration of the front of the Castle and the creation of a Clan Hunter Genealogy Library will help to strengthen the traditions of the Clan.
Gatherings are held every three years and are fostering a strong sense of togetherness that makes the Hunters into a very distinctive Clan.

The Clan Hunter Association was founded in 1970.
There are now a number of Clan Hunter Associations around the world, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand and the USA. The number of associations is growing all the time as awareness of the Clan spreads.
