These photo’s were taken at the end of April 2005, as you can see it is quite exciting to see the improvements to the garden.
Not only are the paths clear and the grass cut, but hedges have been cut. When you look at the flower beds many are now clear and the shrubs that survive are starting to bloom.
Don’t get me wrong, the walled garden is a massive undertaking, and it will take a great deal of ongoing work to keep it in good order. Angus, Ralston and Mary have done tremendous work to get the garden to the point it now is.
There is a program of new planting where possible, fruit trees as well as shrubs are being replaced with new healthy ones.
I will be at Hunterston at the end of June and will bring you an update on the progress of the work, and how the existing shrubs are developing.
The Japanese Maple at the bottom of the photos is the tree that I have bought for the walled garden as a remembrance for my brother Dave, it will not be planted for about 3 months due to the work currently going on in the garden. When it has been planted I will bring you pictures of how it adds to the gardens. (articles by your Web Master Peter Hunter)
