The UK Hunter Clan Association will of course be having their Annual General Meeting at Hunterston every year. After discussion with your new Clan Officer, Stuart Hunter, it has been decided to hold the AGM in April next year. I shall be delighted to welcome you all to your first Annual General Meeting in Hunterston Castle.
The meeting will be held in the Castle with a lunch afterwards. Further details will follow from Stuart.
This year I announced the creation of a new award for Hunter Clan members who have contributed over above the ordinary to Clan Hunter. The award is called "The Order of the Royal Huntsman". It will be given to one clan member only each year and those who are presented with this award will have their name engraved on a plaque and their photograph displayed permanently in the Castle.
The Hunterston Castle Restoration Fund has been created this year and is where your subscription money will be going. The sole purpose of this fund is to maintain and restore Hunterston Castle for future generations of Hunter Clansmen and women. With the agreement of yourselves and the other Clan members the first project will be the restoration of the front of the Castle. Other projects include repairing the guttering and re-pointing parts of the Great Hall.
Since many of you were not able to attend the last Gathering at Hunterston you will not have heard me announce the publications of a Video tour of the Castle given by myself which includes a history of the Hunters of Hunterston and is called "The Heritage of the Hunters". The video is available by mail order and is priced at £12.95, if you buy Russs's article that was published in the Highlander the price for both is £15. Post and Packing is £3. The old P.O. Box is no longer in use so please send all mail order requests either through Stuart, your Clan Officer or via Hunterston.
This summer I visited the Hunter Clan Association in Canada with my mother Sonia, Madam Hutner of Hunterston. We were given a very warm welcome by the Clan members and had an excellent turnout at the Fergus Highland Games. As I was visiting we got to lead the parade of Clans and I had the great pleasure and honour to lead our Clan onto the parade field. Ton Hunter and his wife Christine had very kindly invited my mother and I to their youngest daughter's wedding which was a really happy occasion. Elizabeth is married to Andrew Thibodeau who is a Ross. They had as part of their wedding ceremony, a changing of the sashes from Hunter to Ross.
Since I was in North America the US Hunter Clan Association had arranged to have me invited by the St Andrew's Society of Detroit to be guest of honour at their Highland Games which are the oldest in North America, and jprobably the oldest outside Scotland. These games are very special to those of Scottish descent and so gave the Hunter Clan an excellent spotlight.
Yours, Pauline
